Firefighters to take part in challenges at Webbs

CREWS of firefighters will be taking part in challenges at Webbs Garden Centre in Wychbold tomorrow (Saturday).

The rescue tasks will take place between 10am and 4pm with six teams from Hereford and WorcesterFire and Rescue Service (HWFRS), along with crews from the West Midlands, Hampshire, South Wales and Avon brigades.

HWFRS will be staging two challenges – the Trauma Challenge will see teams face one of a selection of trauma incident and have to identify and treat the injuries, and the Road Traffic Collision Challenge, which gives crews 20 minutes to safely cut free trapped casualties from a simulated road traffic collision.

The winner from each category will go forward to compete at the national UKRO championships in Gloucestershire in July and August 2015.

Chief Fire Officer Mark Yates said the challenges had been devised to enhance the crew’s abilities, develop best practice techniques and provide the public with an opportunity to see firefighters in action, tackling scenarios they face on a regular basis.

Webbs chairman, Ed Webb, said he was proud the centre was hosting the day.

“This is a wonderful family event that brings to life the skills and bravery of the Hereford and Worcester Fire and Rescue Service,” he added.
