Redditch and Bromsgrove Sea and Royal Marines Cadets put on a show for Mayor

BOROUGH Mayor Coun Joanna Kane visited Redditch and Bromsgrove Sea Cadets and Royal Marines Cadets to watch the unit’s ceremonial skill and a display.

Coun Kane, alongside the Consort John Kane, were shown around the unit by one of the newly promoted leading cadets to observe a variety of lessons, including the Royal Marines Cadets’ preparation for their Easter camp and learning about ranks and rates

At the end of the evening Coun Kane presented the cadets with their hard-earned qualifications and promotions.

She said: “It was a huge privilege to gain an insight into the opportunities, experiences and values of the Sea Cadets.

“Recently, the unit won the Stephenson Trophy as the Best Unit in the South West Area, beating 80 other units, and now go forward to the national finals.

“In addition, Commanding Officer Lisa Wood received the South West Area ‘Best Commanding Officer’ award, progressing to national consideration for her work.”

Coun Kane wished her congratulations to all  the cadets.

She added: “A big thank you to everyone who has helped to make this possible, especially the volunteers, trustees and families.

“It was lovely to see the enthusiasm and dedication of the young people as they develop their confidence and other valuable life skills through the Sea Cadet programme.”
