Bromsgrove's Chadsgrove School launches £270,000 appeal for new playground

AN APPEAL has been launched to raise £270,000 so the playground at Bromsgrove’s Chadsgrove School can be revamped and the children can play outside again.

The area has fallen into a state of disrepair and, because it is no longer fit for purpose, has not been used effectively for many years.

Currently, some of the equipment is inaccessible and some of it is completely broken.

Staff at the school want to remove all the equipment, including the flooring and grass mound, to open up the playground so it is a more accessible space.

The ground is on different levels so the school needs to build a retaining wall to make is safer for pupils

Another addition staff and pupils would love to see is a large sheltered area so pupils can enjoy the outdoors and be sheltered from the sun and the rain. At the moment, the playground is completely open and unprotected from the elements.

The majority of the cash raised would go towards the much-needed groundwork, but some of the £270,000 quoted for the redevelopment would fund more equipment, including two accessible swings and an accessible roundabout.

The school is also hoping anyone who is able to volunteer to help with the project, specifically the groundwork, will get in touch to give up their time for the good cause.

The more cash saved on groundwork would mean more funding can be spent on equipment.

Chadsgrove School caters for pupils with a variety of special educational needs and disabilities and a new-look, redeveloped play area would make such a difference to the time they spend there.

Bec Gayden, Chadsgrove School head, said: “Outdoor learning and play are vital for children’s physical, social and emotional development.

“A fully accessible adventure playground would transform daily life at our school, ensuring every child can benefit from these opportunities.”
