THIEVES have stolen a beautiful flower box which was positioned in Rubery to help brighten up the village.
The theft took place sometime between Monday, June 30, and Tuesday, July 1, from underneath the ‘Legion Road’ street sign.
This box, together with 150 others around Rubery has been organised, provided and maintained by Rubery in Bloom, a small group of residents who volunteer their time to make the village a more colourful, pleasant and welcoming place. The boxes have been funded largely by this group who raised the cash by running local events such as barbecues and plant sales. Local councillors have also helped with grants from their community fund along with donations from local businesses.
Nina Smith, speaking on behalf of Rubery in Bloom, told the Standard: “These boxes are made to measure to fit under each road name sign and are a significant financial cost.
“The plants and compost to fill them are an additional cost all paid for by volunteers.
“Plants have been stolen from them on a couple of occasions and this is the second time a complete box has been taken.”
Rubery in Bloom is now appealing to the person responsible to return the box.
