POLICE investigating a reported rape in Bromsgrove have said no offence took place.

The incident – alleged to have happened between 1am and 5am in Sanders Park on Sunday – was reported by another member of the public.

West Mercia Police announced it had increased patrols of the area and stepped up its uniformed presence in and around the park.

But experienced specialist officers, having spoken to the woman thought to be involved, studying CCTV footage and tracking the woman’s movements, said – although reported in good faith – have managed to negate concerns and confirmed there is no risk to the wider public.

Police investigating a rape in Bromsgrove are satisfied there is no wider risk to the public, after speaking to the woman involved and extensive enquiries were carried out.

Det Insp Colin Berry, of North Worcestershire CID, said: “We would always encourage anyone who thinks they may have been a victim of a rape or sexual assault to come forward as we will always take your report seriously and thoroughly investigate to ensure offenders are apprehended.

“In this instance, the report was made in good faith, and we would like to thank the public for their support with this matter and want to reassure people there remains no wider risk to the public from this incident.

“Thankfully, in this instance, our enquiries have concluded and we would like to make it clear there is no suggestion the person initially thought to have been attacked has done anything wrong either.

“We would rather people report concerns to us and work with us so we can understand the circumstances.”

Anyone who falls victim to rape or sexual assault can report it here or by calling Crimestoppers in 0800 555 111.

People should always call 999 in an emergency and if an attack is taking place.
