WILL Tanner kicked Bromsgrove RFC to a narrow 14-10 victory away at Syston in a low-scoring affair as the Boars secured a third successive victory.

Tanner added nine points from the kicking tee while Oliver Ingram crossed for the away side’s only try as Bromsgrove secured a first-ever victory at Barkby Road.

The result means the Boars sit fifth in the Regional 1 Midlands table, eight points behind leaders Stourbridge.

Bromsgrove took an early lead when Tanner kicked a penalty from in front of the posts.

And the Boars scored their only try on 17 minutes when debutant wing Ingram cut inside from the right and avoided a couple of tackles before diving over the line.

From the restart, Bromsgrove won their second penalty as Tanner successfully kicked the ball between the posts to stretch the away side’s lead to 11 points.

And the Boars went into the break with a 14-point lead after Tanner kicked his third penalty of the half with Syston’s James Rudkin sent to the sin bin for a deliberate knock-on.

The home side finally troubled the scoreboard at the start of the second period with a penalty followed by a converted try to reduce the deficit to four points.

However, the Boars stood firm for the remainder of the half, repelling every Syston attack to secure an impressive victory on the road.

Bromsgrove are next in action away at Old Halesonians on Saturday, November 4 with kick-off at 2.15pm at Wassell Grove.
