BROMSGROVE Sporting advanced to the next round of the FA Cup with a 2-0 win away at Ashby Ivanhoe despite having goalkeeper Ollie Taylor sent off in the second half.

Conor Tee’s penalty and Prince Henry’s header put the Rouslers in command before keeper Taylor saw red for handling a wayward backpass with 20 minutes left to play.

However, despite goalscorer Henry taking the gloves, Sporting saw out the game to continue their FA Cup adventure with a fine performance at the NFU Sports Ground.

And Sporting will travel to divisional rivals Barwell in second round qualifying with the game to take place at 3pm on Saturday, September 16 at Kirkby Road.

Bromsgrove troubled their Leicestershire opponents in the opening 15 minutes as Mike McGrath’s shot from 30-yards out went narrowly over the bar.

And Miro Pais then won a penalty after drawing a foul in the box as Tee found the bottom left corner from the resulting spot kick to open the scoring on 30 minutes.

Ashby almost equalised within minutes of the restart only for Aksum White to make a crucial challenge to prevent Tolani Omottola from shooting at goal.

And Sporting deservedly doubled their lead on 64 minutes when Henry headed home at the back post from Ben O’Hanlon’s superb cross from the left.

However, with Sporting cruising into the next round, a stray backpass from Luke Rowe forced Taylor to catch the goalbound ball above his head with Ashby awarded an indirect free-kick.

With Taylor shown a red card, Henry took the gloves for the remainder of the match as Sporting managed to deflect the resulting free-kick over the bar.

And Henry recorded a clean sheet with little goalmouth action in the closing stages as the Rouslers booked their place in the next round with ease.

Sporting are next in action at home to Kettering Town on Saturday, September 9 with kick-off at 3pm at the Victoria Ground.
