Bromsgrove schools take part in creative art competition on theme inspired by late MP Jo Cox

FOUR town schools took part in a cross-curricular arts competition hosted by South Bromsgrove High School.

A total of 36 students, accompanied by eight teachers, produced creative works in response to former MP Jo Cox’s quote: ‘We have far more in common than whatever divides us’.

The RE teachers set the scene by talking to the children about the circumstances in which Jo died, and the aim of her husband, Brendan Cox, to carry on her life’s works.

Among the schools taking part were Catshill, St John’s and Aston Fields Middle Schools and, of course, South Bromsgrove,

The students collaborated together using a variety of mediums including artwork and poetry, later presenting their works to one another.

Some students taking part described the day as ‘a nice way to meet new people and make new friends’ and ‘fun to get to work with other schools’.

Another added: “It was a great way to combine RE and art.”

The schools have now entered the NATRE spirited arts competition for young artists with the hope to encourage more pupils to explore these cross-curricular opportunities.
