BROMSGROVE residents can watch young talented instrumentalists and singers compete for free in the semi-final of the Bromsgrove International Musicians Competition (BIMC) tomorrow (June 2).

The competition showcases cohorts of pianists, violinists, cellists, saxophonists, singers and more from across the globe as they compete for a £5,000 prize.

The preliminary rounds were held on May 30 and 31 with the semi-finals taking place on Friday, June 2. The preliminary rounds were also free to attend.

The ticketed BIMC Finalists’ Concert will be held on Saturday, June 3.

Each concert is performed at the Routh Concert Hall at Bromsgrove School.

The competition, which is open to musicians aged 18 to 25 and singers aged 18 to 28, was launched in 1981 by Mary White, a Bromsgrove based surgeon who had a great interest in music with help from the then artistic director of the Bromsgrove Festival, Dr Donald Hunt.

The £5,000 prize has been donated by the Helen Rachael Mackaness Trust.

The competition winner will also be supported in arranging concerto opportunities with the Orchestra of the Swan, the Three Choirs Festival and the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire.

Two other finalists will receive £2,000 each. Tickets are required to attend the final.
