A NEW day service has opened in Bromsgrove to help and welcome more people with learning and physical disabilities.

Amber Urban has been open and serving clients this week, with the centre looking to promote life skills, work options and a healthy lifestyle.

It will offer a variety of sessions such as music, health and fitness, Zumba and community crafts, and will engage with the local community through schools, nurseries and nursing homes.

An event last Thursday gave people the chance to view the new building and entertainment from Amber spotlight, the service’s music and drama group.

It is the latest step in an exciting new chapter for Amber Support Services which will run this new building alongside current service Amber Inspire.

The service, which has been running for 19 years, has been operating at full capacity at its current Broad Street venue and has had a long waiting list since the pandemic.

Amber Inspire spent parts of last year working in temporary accommodation so the Broad Street building could undergo an eight-week, £200,000 refurbishment.

While waiting for their current building to reopen, the Market Street venue became available and Amber Support decided it was the right moment to expand.

Work began in August and the new venue is now being opened gradually to new and existing clients.

Amber Urban and Amber Inspire now have modern personal care suites and state-of-the-art technology to both help and inspire their clients.

Day service manager Gary Ives, who has worked Amber for over a decade, said: “This is a massive step forward for us – we have been feeling the need to expand for a while now and this felt like the perfect opportunity to do so.

“This is a really exciting time for us all, we have such an unbelievable team here and now we’re pushing our boundaries so we can be so much more proactive within the local community.”

Amber Support offers disability support services including community care, outreach respite and social enterprise projects, from one-hour-a-week to 24-hour-a-day to clients across Worcestershire, Warwickshire, Sandwell and the Black Country.
