PROMISING angler Dan Tandy boosted his pocket money with victory in his first Alvechurch Open on the Canal Lake.

The 17-year-old fished long pole and banded pellet up to the far reeds throughout to net 92lbs 9oz of stockies up to 3lbs and barbell to take the honours on Bank Holiday Monday.

This will give the Alvechurch sponsored fisherman (peg 12) plenty of confidence as he saw off a number of experienced anglers.

His closest rival was Dave Wellavize (peg 18) who fished long pole and banded pellet for a weight of 78lbs 15oz which included stockies and silvers.

Warren Beach (peg 3) won the battle for third place with 69lbs 9oz as Steve Bellion (peg 1) finished just short with 64lbs 12oz.

Elsewhere, Trevor Hodges (peg 7) sneaked into the top five with a mixed bag 57lbs 10oz, while Les Ayres (peg 6) fished two tactics down the track with pole and banded pellet and the nearside reeds for 51lbs 12oz.

This competition followed a full house on the Horseshoe Lake a

couple of days earlier when James Turner put on a masterclass.

Off peg 35, he fished pellet feeder and 6ml banded pellet up to the island throughout for carp up to 6lbs, stockies and barbel for a winning weight of 101lbs 7oz.

The next three anglers had their own match with just ounces separating Trevor Hodges (peg 28), Beach (peg 10) and Phil Evans (peg 26).

It was Hodges who took it, though, as he fished tip and maggots up to the island and pole and maggot late down the edge to net carp, stockies and ide for 55lbs 6oz.

This was just enough to edge out Beach who weighed 55lbs taken long pole and pellet over a number of swims, while Evans had to settle for fourth spot. His two tactics up to the island and long pole out in front saw him pick up a mixed bag of 54lbs 9oz.

Meanwhile, Tony Musticoni (peg 13) fished long pole and pellet out in front and down the margin with maggot for carp, and barbel for 44lbs 7oz.

This was almost 10lbs as much as what Darren Beach (peg 5) could manage to pluck out of the water as he fished long pole and pellet over a number of swims for a mixed bag of carp and barbel for 35lbs 13oz.
