A TALENTED Bromsgrove rugby player and a promising Droitwich swimmer will be hoping to show their class when they compete in next week’s Sainsbury’s 2015 School Games.

Jessica Ball will represent England Midlands in the rugby sevens competition, while Rebecca Redfern has been selected to compete for England Central in swimming.

The duo will be among 1,600 athletes to take part in the event, which will be held between Thursday (September 3) and Sunday (September 6) in Manchester.

Ball, 17, and Redfern, 15, will be following in the footsteps of some of Britain’s biggest sporting stars including Paralympic champion Ellie Simmonds, heptathlete Katarina Johnson-Thompson and sprinter Adam Gemili.

As well as the excitement of competing, they will live within the Athletes’ Village, attend show-stopping opening and closing ceremonies and perform in front of a crowd of thousands.

Ball, from St Augustine’s High School, said: “I am really pleased to have been selected to compete in the Sainsbury’s School Games, and I am looking forward to performing in front of my friends and family.”

Rebecca, from Droitwich Spa High School, added: “This will be my first time competing at the School Games, and I am really excited to have been picked to be part of a winning team.”
