A HOST of trialists and new signings are set to be given their chance to shine when Bromsgrove Sporting begin their pre-season campaign tomorrow (Saturday).

The Rouslers will take on Midland Football League Division Three outfit FC Stratford at Tiddington where supporters will get the opportunity to see their new-look side in action.

A total of 12 players have either been retained or recruited, including experienced striker Luke Corbett and former Sporting ace Aaron Roberts, while a number of new faces have come on trial.

Manager Paul Smith revealed he had 32 players at his disposal and said he would be using Bromsgrove’s first three friendlies as a platform for them to stake their claim.

“I am over the moon with the quality we have got, the sessions that we have put on and with the way the lads have come back and gelled,” he said.

“But it’s still a case of so far, so good as you don’t know how you will fare until the season starts.

“I have 32 players which are trying out, but I am looking to carry a squad of 19 next year, so for the first three friendlies out of the seven I am going to have a look at everybody and then I will be cutting it down to 22.

“I will then work with those as they will be the ones which I am most likely to keep on for the season.”

After this weekend’s clash, Bromsgrove will make the trip to Cradley Town on Saturday, July 18, before hosting Stratford Town four days later and Smith is keen to see his players fight for places.

“Don’t get me wrong, selection headaches are tremendous,” Smith added. “A lot of clubs would be sniffing around and struggling to get the numbers in.

“But as a management team we have done our homework, identified players, sent invites and they have all turned up, which is fantastic. We have done our bit, so hopefully we will get our rewards.”
