Sporting can become 'invincibles' - Smith

TITLE-chasing Bromsgrove Sporting have the ability to go undefeated for the entire Midland Football League Division One season, according to manager Paul Smith.

The Rouslers will travel to Leicestershire to take on fellow high flyers Leicester Road tomorrow (Saturday) looking to keep their unbeaten league record in tact.

Smith admitted the away clash was one of their toughest tests so far after Road ended Coventry United’s perfect start to the campaign last week.

But as Bromsgrove remain the only team not to lose in the league this season, Smith said his players had even more impetus to secure victory at the Leicester Road Stadium.

“We would like to stay unbeaten as long as we can as the players are taking pride in seeing that nought in the losses column,” he said.

“It stands as a big statement (to say we can go unbeaten), but at the end of the day, if you want to go out and win this league you can only afford to lose one or two games anyway, and this squad is capable of doing that without a shadow of a doubt.

“It is all in the players’ hands. The squad I have put together are good enough to go on a good run, win cups and ultimately win the league.”

Although Sporting have racked up 16 goals in their last three league games, Smith has warned his in-form side over complacency as they attempt to see off the Hinckley-based outfit.

“Leicester Road are a really good side and they have proved that by beating Coventry convincingly 3-0 who had won the first eight games in the league,” he said.

“So we are under no illusions that Saturday is going to be a really tough game over at Leicester Road, but that said this squad is good enough to go to any ground in this league and win games.

“What I keep pointing out to our boys is that I firmly believe the only team that can beat us is ourselves.

“If we don’t go into games with the right mindset and think we can just rock up and win then we have got a chance of losing.

“But if we don’t and stick to our game plan it is going to take a very good side to beat us.”
