GOOD week for Bromsgrove Tennis Club as an under-strength ladies maintain their position at the top of the Division One table.

The Ladies A team, who were missing their strongest players, cemented their position as league leaders with a 3-1 victory over Pershore A.

Sophie Oliver stepped up from the B team to support Jilly Whitcomb but the pair narrowly lost their opening clash but made amends by winning the second.

Captain Sally Franks, playing with Tina Manning, knew the ladies had to perform well and they duly obliged as they dominated from start to finish as they powered their way to two comfortable victories.

And with title rivals Stourbridge being held to a draw in their last match, the win opened up a healthy gap for Bromsgrove at the top.

The Ladies D team also find themselves well clear at the top of the Division Seven table after they claimed a 4-0 victory over Wombourne.

Marie Hackett with captain Connie Wedelich and Beccy Smith with Lisa Rushton starred in the hard fought win as the ladies look to make it back-to-back promotions.

Unfortunately it was not a good day for the Ladies G team as they lost 3-1 to Ombersley D in Division Ten.

Franks said: “It’s great to see so many teams performing well and challenging for titles.

“Even when things don’t go in our favour teams still fight hard to get points which could prove critical at the end of the season.”

There were two Men’s matches with the G Team drawing 2-2 with Cutnall Green D in a Division 12 clash, but Bromsgrove edged it on count-back as they had won more games to get the bonus win point.

The youthful Dan Andrews showed his potential as a player after dominating on the serves.

Meanwhile, in Division Six the Men’s C team played Wollaston A.

After Alastair Liddle picked up an early injury, he and partner John Dudek were forced to forfeit both contests.

The other pair of Voitek Niedzwiedz and Trevor Errington lost to Wollaston’s first pair 2-6, 6-3 but they came back strongly to beat the second pair 6-3, 6-0.
