BROMSGROVE Tennis Club bagged a hat-trick of victories last weekend as their ladies turned on the style.

The club’s ladies kicked off their winter season in superb fashion with victories for their A, D and E teams.

The tightest of matches came in the Division One where Bromsgrove A defeated rivals Droitwich A 33-32 after strong showings from Tina Manning with Sally Franks and Jenny Law with Rachel Mack.

The newly-promoted D team expected a tough battle away against Blakedown A in Division Eight but opened their account with a 3-1 victory. Steph Armstrong with Dylis Thomas came through a close three set rubber to beat Blackdown’s first pair before cruising to a 6-1, 6-1 win over their next opponents. Victory was then sealed when Ros Cooke and Lesley Hodson beat the second pair by the same scoreline.

Finally, Anne Simper and Lorraine Russell were the stars for Bromsgrove’s E team as they defeated Hagley’s second pair 6-0, 6-2 before producing a great fightback to win their following match 0-6,6-4,6-2. Lisa Rushton and Sue Forest had a more difficult time, but showed resilience to win a critical third rubber to secure a 3-1 victory.

Ladies captain Sally Franks said: “This hat trick of wins in our opening matches gives everyone confidence and we’re all looking forward to the season, with hopefully teams pushing for promotion in a number of divisions showing the strength in depth we have.”
