A MERE scale separated the top two at Alvechurch Fisheries on Bank Holiday Monday as Paul Gartshore claimed the narrowest of victories.

Steve Bellion (26) had to settle for second after being declared an ounce behind at the weigh in. He fished banded pellet at 13 mts on to the far shelf for carp and silvers 55lbs 12oz.

But Gartshore (peg 1) just edged it with 55lbs 13oz after fishing with pellet paste down the first shelf throughout for a mix of carp, ide and barbell.

Warren Beach (peg 7) fished his usual tactics up to the rushes over a number of swims to weigh 51lbs 11oz, while off peg 20 Ron Taylor adopted several tactics for his mixed bag of 40lbs 3oz.

Meanwhile, Beach was the winner of the Saturday Open after netting 60lbs 11oz. His winning weight was secured on the Horseshoe Lake after fishing long pole shallow slapping with 8ml banded pellet to gain carp up to 6lbs.

In second place was Mike Workman (peg 24) thanks to a catch of 57lbs 11oz, while Gary Clarke (peg 32) got third after mixing up his tactics for 50lbs 1oz.

Bellion produced another solid performance to get 49lbs worth of fish and seal fourth spot ahead of Dave Broadbent (peg 13, 37lbs 5oz) and Mel Brown (peg 18, 35lbs 6oz).
