Gartshore claims Horseshoe Lake honours

IT WAS a memorable day at Alvechurch Fisheries for Paul Gartshore as he clinched the Sunday Open at Horseshoe Lake.

After drawing the fancied peg 24, Gartshore made no mistake as he saw off the 18-strong field with a winning weight of 84lbs 4oz.

The angler concentrated on a maggot attack from the off fishing in front at six metres and down the margin to net carp and barbel and stockies.

On the opposite peg 13, Ron Taylor had to settle for second place after clinching an impressive weight of 75lbs 4oz. He alternated pole and corn out in front and down the margin shelf for carp up to 5lb ide and stockies.

It was an even closer battle for third spot, with Les Ayres (peg 1) edging Gary Clarke (peg 30) by just 5oz. His decision to fish two tactics paid off as he started on the bomb and banded pellet up to the aerator before switching across to the margin with pole and corn to boost his weight with carp up to 6lbs and stockies for 49lbs 9oz.

Clarke, meanwhile, fished long pole and pellet over a number of swims for a mixed bag of carp and stockies to weigh 49lbs 4oz.
