ALVECHURCH Fisheries saw one of its tightest finishes, but it was a familiar name who claimed top spot.

Rob Gandley saw off Warren Beach by less than 1lb to maintain his sensational record on the Horseshoe Lake.

Off peg nine, the in-form angler finished at 11mts to land barbel, ide and stockies for 61lbs 15oz.

Beach (peg 11), meanwhile, was left to settle for second place again as he returned with 61lbs 8oz after alternating long pole and maggot up to the rushes throughout.

Les Ayres produced one of his best finishes to date off peg five to take third spot with 60lbs, while Danny Tresigne (peg 30) fished pole at 13 mts with caster on the deck for carp and silvers for 55lbs 3oz.

After a number of close encounters Beach finally got rewarded for his consistency to win the Saturday Open with a mixed bag of stockies and silvers to weigh 55lbs 9oz.

Trevor Hodges finished runner up with 47lbs 11oz, Richard Knowles secured a top three spot with 40lbs 10oz and Tony Musticone came fourth with 34lbs 14oz.
