Gandley claims third win on the trot

THERE was no change at the top at Alvechurch Fisheries as Rob Gandley claimed his third successive Saturday Open on the Horseshoe Lake.

But the in-form angler did come under pressure from Rob Hodge (peg 26) who just failed to deny him by 2lb at the weigh in.

After fishing similar tactics with long pole, worm and caster until the last hour, Hodge switched to shallow tactics to mug carp up to 8lbs with a silver fish net of 50 lbs for 78lbs 1oz.

But he had to settle for second as Gandley (peg 28) finished with two nets of silvers for 80lbs 5oz to just edge the verdict.

After drawing peg 18 in the bowl Warren Beach fished caster and worm at 11 mts and late down the margin for a fantastic net of barbel and ide for 46lbs 2oz and third place.

Elsewhere, Trevor Hodges (peg 35) fished long pole and pellet out in front over a number of lines for 42lbs 13oz and fourth spot.

Following his wedding on Saturday, Steve Bellion not only found time to fish the Thursday Open, but topped up his spending money with a clear win.

Bellion (peg 13) finished worm and caster out in front and late down the margin to land barbel up to 6lbs, ide and stockies to weigh 83lbs 1oz.

Beach (peg 32) once again came second after fishing long pole out in front with worm and caster to boost his weight with a silver fish net of 51lb for 70lbs 12oz.

Les Ayes (peg 11) secured 66lbs for third, while assistant manager Phil Evans made one of his brief appearances fishing pole, worm and caster at 13 mts and returned 42lb of silvers to weigh 47lbs 8oz.
