IN-FORM Droitwich maintained their 100 per cent start to the season with a third successive victory – albeit secured somewhat shakily against Oldswinford.
Chasing a relatively small victory target of 104, Spa collapsed from 40-1 to 46-6 and were indebted to a seventh-wicket partnership between Aussie David Lane and Max Young.
The duo tamed the off-spin of the home side’s captain Tom Blunt to score 26 and 24 not out respectively as Droitwich pinched a narrow three-wicket win but maintained their best start to a season for many years.
Earlier Spa’s own spinners, Martyn Davies and Jake Young, had exploited the testing track to thwart the Oldswinford batsmen and were well supported by Phil Thomas, who bowled with great line and length throughout an excellent 17-over spell.
Droitwich Seconds had to settle for a losing draw after falling just three runs short of the 213 target set by Feckenham at St Peter’s Fields.
Gallant half-centuries from Martin Keen and Karl Thomson provided the backbone of the effort after skipper Karl Goddard had earlier claimed four wickets but Spa were left to rue the poor bowling that boosted the visitors’ total.
Ash Walton continued his good early season form with the bat with an unbeaten 50 as Droitwich Thirds cantered to an eight-wicket win over Romsley – u16 George Taylor picking up 4-16 as the visitors were skittled for 111.
Despite another good knock of 47 from Simon Holliday, the Fourths suffered an eight-wicket defeat at the hands of Ombersley Taverners.
