Debut victories for White and Gandley

ALVECHURCH Fisheries became a happy hunting ground for anglers Graham White and Rob Gandley as they won on their debuts.

White fished his way to glory last Thursday before fellow newcomer Gandley produced an emphatic performance in the Saturday Open to take the title.

Gandley (28) made his first visit to the fishery and made sure it was a memorable one as he got 117lbs 13oz which is one of the best weights recorded on the Horseshoe.

He achieved this feat after alternating two swims out in front with a worm and caster attack throughout to net a bonus carp of 12lbs as well as stockies, ide and barbel.




His nearest challenger was Trevor Hodges (peg 18) who fished similar tactics at 10 mts and late down both margins for stockies, chub and barbel for 86lbs 14oz.

Paul Gartshaw (peg 24) finished just a fish behind on 86lbs 10oz, while Warren Beach (peg 30) weighed in with 68lbs 1oz to secure fourth spot.


Gandley’s success followed another newcomer, White, who won by just 1lb. He fished fished alternate tactics off peg 26 switching from pole with worm and caster at 6 mts to paste down the first shelf to net a mixed bag of carp, ide and barbel for 70lbs.

Beach (peg 1) came second with 68lbs 7oz ahead of first timer Dave Kellon (peg 22), who finished with 57lbs 8oz after fishing a worm and caster attack down the first shelf and paste down both margins for his weight.

Fishing pole and pellet tactics at 13 mts and short out in front Les Ayres (peg 3) who weighed a mixed bag of 49lbs 7oz for fourth place.
