Davis: Fairfield must give it their all against Continental Star

WAYNE DAVIS is calling on his Fairfield Villa players to give it their all in their opening Midland League Division Two fixture at home to Continental Star this weekend.

Davis will be taking charge of his first competitive game on Saturday since replacing long-time servants Paul Oakes and Lee Shaw and faces a tough test against a Star side which opted to drop two divisions from the Midland League Premier.

After making the switch from Bromsgrove and District League side VBG Fairfield, where he won a number of trophies, Davis has been pleased with the work ethic his players have shown throughout pre-season.

“I’m glad all the pre-season games are out the way as we can concentrate on the league but I have been very pleased with how the players have been performing over the summer,” he said.

“Since making the step-up from Sunday to Saturday football, I’ve found it OK but the one thing I have learnt is one mistake at the back and you get punished.

“We’ve had a mixture of results over the summer but it’s only pre-season, it all starts for real on Saturday.

“I’m asking the players to just go out their and give 100 per cent and do their best, regardless of the result.

“At the end of the 90 minutes, if the players have done what I asked them to do, that’s good enough for me.”

Ahead of the clash against Star, Davis will be without star signing Lewis Smith and Peter Jenvey but Scott Smith and Ryan Molesworth are expected to return.

Villa then face a trip to Coton Green on Tuesday (7.45pm KO).
