THERE was another full house for the Saturday Open on the Horseshoe Lake at Alvechurch Fisheries and it was Les Ayres who claimed top spot from peg five.
Eighteen anglers competed and there were some impressive weights brought to the scales.
After drawing in-form peg five, lake regular Ayres easily prevailed with an all-carp weight of 85.5.
He fished two tactics bomb and waggler into open water and just short of the rushes to pick off carp up to 10lb to open his victory account for 2016.
His nearest challenger Warren Beach on peg 13 also rotated tactics and, after a slow start casting into the bowl, found carp up to 10lb to weigh 59.4.
Paul Gartshore on peg seven fished similar tactics for his all-carp net of 50.15 to secure third place.
Ron Taylor (peg 11) elected to fish long pole and maggot up to the rushes over a number of swims to return 30.12 for fourth spot and fifth was Trevor Hodges (peg nine) who also rotated bomb and maggot tactics for his mixed net of 26.8.
Steve Bellion on peg 32 struggled throughout for a bite but finally found three carp in the last half hour for 18.6 to complete the top six.
MEANWHILE, following lots of enquires about the reopening of the new House Pool, Alvechurch Fisheries manager Mark Olds is now able to forecast it will be early April.
The first and second stage of the ground work has been completed and includes 21 specially designed platforms for pleasure fishing anglers and also three bays for disabled anglers and their carers.
The first stocking programme has featured a number of carp up to 12lb and tench and barbel up to 5lb, whilst the second stage of similar quality will be introduced before the opening.
