CHAIRMAN Steve Jones reflected on a hugely successful year for Bromsgrove Tennis Club at the club’s annual presentation evening at Bromsgrove Golf Club.

Jones congratulated all those who put in the hard work to see the club crowned ‘Club of the Year’ by Herefordshire and Worcestershire LTA for the second time in three years.

He also asked all the members present to recognise head coach James Griffiths achievement in being awarded the title of ‘Coach of the Year’ for Herefordshire and Worcestershire.

2015 was a really strong year with many teams winning their divisions or getting promoted as runners up and he highlighted a couple of standout performances.

The Ladies achieved a first in club history with all teams securing promotion and the A team remaining in Division One in the Winter League competitions. The success included winning four of the individual divisions.

Not to be outdone the men’s A team secured a place in National Division Two of the Aegon League after winning the County competition and then beating Shropshire champions Wem followed by a victory against South Wales champions Cardiff in a nail-biting final play off.

Joined by tournament organiser Dave Jones, Steve Jones then presented the 2015 Club Tournament awards.

Men’s champion was Adam Dudek, winning the title 14 years after first getting his name on the trophy, while County champion Imogen Sinclair took the ladies title.

Steve himself picked up both the men’s doubles and mixed titles and another multiple winner was Jack Walters who took the men’s B titles for both singles and doubles.

Connie Wedelich, in the Ladies B competition, achieved similar success in both singles and doubles.

One of the most eagerly awaited awards is the ‘Most Improved Player of the Year’. The awards are decided by all team players and committee members and Steve was delighted to present this year’s trophies to Alison Douglas and Bruce Turner.

The chairman thanked everyone for their support during the past 12 months and outlined some of the future plans aimed at keeping Bromsgrove Tennis Club as the premier tennis club in the area.
