MEMBERS of Bromsgrove Tennis Club are celebrating a successful summer season which saw them claim five promotions and a host of trophies.
There was heartbreak for the Ladies A team who were pipped to the Division One title, but the strength of the section was shown as the B and C sides earned promotion.
In a close Division Seven, the D team finished in 4th and next year they will be joined by the E team who won promotion as runners up in Division Eight.
Ladies captain Sally Franks said: “After a great winter we thought we would do well in the summer. But to get three promotions and finish as county runners up in Division One went beyond what I hoped for.
“There’s a great spirit and friendly competition for places. With two teams in Division Seven next year there will be real rivalry.’
The highlight for the Men was the A team winning The County Aegon League and then beating Shropshire champions Wem and South Wales champions Cardiff to earn promotion to National League Two.
In the Hereford and Worcester Leagues, the A team finished fifth in Division One, the B side came fifth in Division Three and the E team had settle with fourth place in Division Eight.
While the C team faltered in their bid to move up a division, the D team prospered as they clinched promotion from Division Seven in their last match.
Men’s captain Steve Jones said: “Getting back into the National League is a big bonus for the club.
“We’re attracting better players as well as developing some really strong juniors who have played key roles for the teams this year.
“All five teams have put in some good performances and we have a strong base to move forward. With so many people wanting to play for the teams we’ll be entering an extra team into the winter competitions.”
Elsewhere, the Mixed teams all maintained their status, while the junior sides had another brilliant set of results in the county competitions.
