BROMSGROVE Mixed A secured promotion from Division Two of the Herefordshire & Worcestershire Summer League as champions following their 3-1 victory over rivals David Lloyd Bromsgrove A.

Steve Jones with Jill Witcomb won both of their contests and Andy Brettle with Linda Woolley had a win and a loss.

Captain Jones said: “It was a really tight finish to the campaign but this great result means we’ve done just enough to take the title and it’s great to get back to Division One.”

There was further joy for the Men’s A team as they secured a 4-2 victory over David Lloyd Bromsgrove in their final Division One game of the season.

On their return to the A team, captain Adam Dudek and Luke Petit claimed two strong wins to put Bromsgrove on the path to victory.

Steve Jones with Ollie Stratford and David Jameson with Phil Boardman made the step up from the Men’s B team due to players being on holiday but each took a vital win to secure victory for Bromsgrove.

Dudek said: “It’s great to end the season with a win. It’s been a tough time after losing key players to injury and we’ve struggled to get a consistent team out.

“However everyone who has stepped in has fought hard and there’s been some close results.”

The Men’s F team ended their first ever Division Nine East season with a close bonus points victory over rivals Droitwich E to cement a mid-table position.

The junior pair of Jim Round and Stuart Shannon once again sowed their style as they swept away the Droitwich first and second pairs 6-1, 6-2.

Two long and hard contests saw the third pair of Rob Kindon with Giles Hyder just lose out in tie breaks but Martin German with new partner Miles Scrammel won the rubber needed to bring the match level.

with rubbers and sets equal, the count-back saw Bromsgrove take the winning bonus points by 54-51 in games.

Captain German said: “It’s been a good first summer. The new team has given an opportunity for rising juniors to get involved in the senior contest and allowed regular club players an extra chance to play competitive team tennis.”

Elsewhere, the Mixed C team secured their Division For East status with a 4-0 victory over Pershore B.

Knowing a win was needed to guarantee safety, the young pairing of George Rogers with Katherine Smedley and experienced heads of Di Inchley with Voitek Naiedzwiedz showed maturity to claim a much-needed win against an injury hit Pershore side who were chasing promotion.
