BROMSGROVE Men’s E secured the Herefordshire and Worcestershire League Division Nine title after opponents Woolaston C conceded their match.

The E team only needed three points from their final match against the basement side but disappointingly, they conceded the match, handing Bromsgrove maximum points and the title.

Captain Chris Hands said: “We were looking forward to the match and were confident of getting the points we needed.

“It’s a bit of a let down to finish like this. It’s been a great season for the team.

“A blend of experienced players with some fast improving juniors has proved too much for the other teams in our division.

“The whole squad has put in some great performances to take the title.”

The Men’s B Team of Ollie Stratford with Steve Jones and Matt Smith with Jeth Tomlinson maintained their promotion hopes in Division Three with a narrow victory over Bewdley B.

Both Bromsgrove pairs lost close three-set contests against Bewdley’s first pair but were more successful against the second pair.

With the match score level at 2-2, Bromsgrove took the win points by winning more sets.

The victory keeps the Men’s B in second place with one match remaining against league leaders David Lloyd Worcester.

The Ladies C team ended their season on a low as they lost to Halesowen A in Division Four.

Debbie Oliver with Linda Wooley won both their rubbers but the new pairing of Di Wilson with debutant Isabelle O’Conner found it tough going, going down in both rubbers.

Halesowen claimed the win on the amount of sets won, and the result leaves Bromsgrove in a comfortable mid-table position following promotion last year.

There was a similar story for the Ladies D team in Division Seven as league leaders Kidderminster snatched a narrow victory on sets won as the score ended 2-2.

Kidderminster’s first pair was too strong for Bromsgrove’s Dylin Thomas with Marie Hackett and Beccy Smith with Anne Simper.

However, victories over Kidderminster’s second pair levelled the score but Bromsgrove missed out on the bonus win points.

The result sees Bromsgrove remain in second and are awaiting for result elsewhere to see if they record back-to-back promotions.

Elsewhere, the Ladies G team came from behind to claim a 3-1 victory over Halesowen C in Division 10.

Replaying a game that got abandoned earlier this season due to rain, Halesowen took a one set lead but Claire Andrews with Claire Hancock battled hard to win to win the final two sets 7-5. 7-5.

Avril Pugh with Fay Giles pulled off another good three-set win despite losing their opening contest.

The victory lifts Bromsgrove out of the relegation zone, putting pressure on teams around them.
