BROMSGROVE Cricket Club’s hopes of promotion received a jolt when it lost on Saturday by six wickets to Barnards Green.
The Club batted first and scored 243-8 in its 55 overs, with Ashley Newdick contributing 75 and Jayden Levitt 54, but in a well controlled run chase Barnards Green reached the target in 49 overs for the loss of only 4 wickets.
The second XI stayed on track in their promotion hunt with a winning draw away against Barnards Green.
A fine 113 from Ryan Pedley and 40 from Mark Bilborough meant that the Club needed to bowl out the opposition for 249 to win – however, hard thoug thirds went down to defeat at Himley as George Stanhope took 5-27 to help bowl out Himley for 155, but in reply the Club could score only 121.
And the fourth XI kept up the pressure in its promotion chase with a crushing win over Cleobury Mortimer by nine wickets with Thomas Downing taking 4-39, Steven Moore scoring 59 not out and Henry Dwyer scoring 40.
On Sundayit was back to normal with both matches cancelled because of heavy rain.
