BROMSGROVE Ladies Firsts closed out their pre-season friendly programme with a comfortable 5-0 victory over Solihull Blossomfield thanks to a hat-trick from Lucy Taylor.
This was the first match the girls had played on their brand new pitch and it took them a while to adjust to the bounce of the ball.
However, they took the lead after nine minutes when Laura Underhill’s strike at goal was saved and rebounded into the path of captain Heather Nunnerley who calmly scored.
On the half four mark Bromgrove increased their lead as Lisa Smiley attacked the back line and pulled the ball into the path of the returning Taylor who somehow managed to squeeze the ball into the goal.
Early in the second half Stacey Nash won the ball in midfield, laid off a superb pass to Tricky Burton who herself sent it on to Underhill to score from close range to make it 3-0.
After more pressure from Bromsgrove, they got their fourth when Caroline Baker hammered the ball into the shooting area where it was superbly turned home by the diving Taylor.
Taylor then completed her hat-trick towards the end of the match to close out the match at 5-0.
Head coach Alan Gormley said: “This was a very useful work out for us. The girls have trained hard through the summer and are eager to take on the rally tough challenges we face as we tackle a new season in the highest league we have ever played in.
“To stay up we have to finish in the top half. It was particularly pleasing to see Lucy Taylor settle in so well after returning to us from university.”
Bromsgrove begin their Midland Region Feeder West campaign on Saturday at home to Telford & Wrekin.
