Bromsgrove Ladies C move to summit of Division Five

BROMSGROVE Ladies C moved to the summit of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Summer League Division Five East table following their 4-2 victory over Hallow A.

They now sit six points clear of Inkberrow with one match remaining for both sides. The depth of the Bromsgrove team showed as the third pair of Anne Simper with Connie Wedelich beat both the opposition second and third pairs.

Lisa Rushton with Lorraine Russel and Steph Armstrong with Di Wilson both picked up critical wins to give Bromsgrove eight points for the four rubbers in addition to two bonus points for claiming victory.

Captain Wedelich said: “It was a close match, but the fighting spirit of the team showed why we are pushing for a back to back promotion. The title is within our grasp, so to be promoted as champions would be fantastic.”

The growing experience of the Men’s F team shined through as they came out on top in their Division Nine East clash against second-from-bottom Fladbury.

Each pair of Charlie Tait with Mark Wilson, Martin German with Ethan Oakes and Rob Kindon with Giles Hyder won a rubber to make it 3-3 and with sets even, Bromsgrove took the points as they won more games.

Kindon and Hyder’s victory was their first of the campaign.

Two fantastic results for the Ladies B team have put them in strong contention to grab the runners-up spot in Division Two and earn promotion immediately back to Division One.

Bromsgrove eased past Cutnall Green 5-1 in their first clash as their opponents could only field two pairs.

Strong all round performances from Kelly Kenward with Kath Smedley and Joan McGregor with Steph Armstrong saw them take two rubbers each and Linda Wooley with Hannah Weston took the fifth.

Their victory over Cutnall Green was followed up by a tough contest against Leominster A.

McGregor and Wooley won two rubbers which included a close three-set battle while Weston and Kenward claimed the third rubber, fighting back to win in three sets after losing the opener.

With the match equal at 3-3 and in equal in sets, Leominster claimed the victory on games won.

Bromsgrove will be waiting nervously to see if other results go their way after completing their season.

The Men’s B had a mixed bag of results as they defeated Stourbridge C but lost 4-2 to Hereford Whitecross A in Division Two.

A great performance in the first game saw Bromsgrove storm to a 5-1 victory to move to the summit of the table.

However, after struggling to raise a side for their clash against Hereford and the reserves from the Men’s D team forced to make the step-up, Bromsgrove dropped back down to second after losing 4-2.

Despite defeat, promotion remains a strong possibility.
