Bromsgrove on course for promotion

BROMSGROVE Men’s D look set for promotion from Division Six of the Herefordshire and Worcestershire Tennis League despite losing to neighbours and league leaders Droitwich C.

The 3-1 victory for Droitwich ensured they will be the ones clinching the title, while Bromsgrove remain in a strong second place.

Bromsgrove’s John Casey with Jeth Tomlinson lost the opening rubber to Nick King and Eric Cartleet before beating the second pair of Dave Wicks and John Moran.

Tim Roland with Bruce Turner lost another close three-set battle against King and Cartleet before going down to Wicks and Noran.

Captain Casey said: “It was disappointing to lose such a close match but the two points may well be enough to get us promotion.”

Bromsgrove’s Mixed D team boosted their chances of promotion from Division Six with a 4-0 victory over bottom club Inkberrow B.

The win lifts Bromsgrove into second place with all their matches completed, however, other teams around them have the potential to climb up to second so it will be an anxious few weeks for Bromsgrove.

Lisa Rushton with Bruce Turner and Anne Simper with Pete Morris were never in any trouble as they cruised to a routine 4-0 victory.

Captain Rushton said: “It’s been a great end to the season after a slow start.

“With the points on the board, the pressure is now on the other clubs to catch us.”
