OPENERS Ash Newfield and Jayden Levitt steered Bromsgrove to a third straight victory of the season as they edged Barnards Green.
The pair put on 120 for the first wicket with Levitt scoring 69 runs from just 54 balls and Newfield taking a patient 129 deliveries to reach 74 as Bromsgrove closed on 241-8.
In reply the Green plugged away but fell short despite half centuries from Nathan Newport and Phil Harris.
James Ganderton removed both openers during a miserly spell of 2-29 from his ten overs and Graeme Whiles picked up 3-46 including the wickets of both Newport and Harris.
The club’s second XI made light work of Barnards Green as third XI vice captain Dave Collins batted the full 50 overs and was out for 97 chasing a first Birmingham League century.
Bromsgrove posted 224-5 from their 50 overs and bowled the Green out for just 104 thanks to Ryan Pedley (4-19) and a fabulous spell from Alistair Hickman (3-35) to remove Green’s top order.
Meanwhile, Bromsgrove’s third XI came out top in a close encounter with Five Ways Old Eds. Ben Johnson was unlucky to only take one wicket from an outstanding opening spell but the bowling honors went to Chris Burford.
He took a career best 6-50 from 17 overs as Ways made their way to 179-9 with opener Dave Potter carrying his bat for a chanceless 101.
In reply Jon Bassett chipped away at the Bromsgrove batters with his nagging in-swingers but Bromsgrove showed their batting depth as the engine room of Matt Banham (31*) and Burford (17*) put together a seventh wicket partnership of 42 to take the Boars home with seven balls to spare.
