AVONCROFT were undone by Ben Griffiths for the second time this season as Worcestershire County League basement side Cleobury Mortimer claimed an emphatic 200-run victory.

The previous meeting between the two sides saw Cleobury claim a winning draw thanks to an unbeaten 188 from Griffiths, and once again he proved to be the thorn in Avoncroft’s side as his 164 guided the home side to 300-9 from 50 overs as well as taking 4-27 with the ball.

Cleobury captain David Shorter added 47 to the tally while tail-enders Harry Booton (10 no) and Alfie Todd (11 no) were the only other players to reach double figures in an innings which featured 42 extras.

In response, Avoncroft were skittled out for a poultry 100 after 24 overs with opening batsmen Sam Hughes (25) and Alex Brunt (20) the only players to notch up double figures.

Following his impressive 164, Griffiths did the damage with the ball as he took four wickets for 27 runs from a ten over spell while James Manley led the way as he claimed five scalps for 18 runs from his 7.4 overs.

Avoncroft remain sixth in the table and will look to return to winning ways on Saturday when they entertain promotion chasing Kempsey.
