PETER Mace won the race for the biggest weight at Alvechurch Fisheries as he swept to his first victory on Saturday.

Due to the windy conditions on the Horseshoe Lake, many of the 16-strong field struggled to score highly.

But Mace, off peg three, found some shelter and made the most of it. He finished pole and caster over a number of swims to net a few carp, stockies and silvers for 55lbs 15oz.

Ron Taylor (peg 35) was the next best as clinched 38lbs 6oz after fishing long pole up to the rushes switching to pellet feeder for his mixed bag.

Les Ayres (peg 11) came third with 31lbs 3oz ahead of Sammy Round (25lbs 4oz) and Warren Beach (21lbs 12oz).

Colmic sponsored Danny Tresigne finished sixth as he failed to back up his Thursday Open-winning performance. That day he clinched a weight of 87lbs 4oz after fishing long pole off peg 11 up to the rushes with worm and caster to net a few carp up to 6lbs, barbel, ide and silvers.

His nearest challenger Warren Beach who fished worm and caster out in front switching to pellet waggler for his mixed bag of carp and stockies 81lbs 14oz.

Gary Clarke secured a top three finish with 72lbs 15oz, while Phil Evans’ tactic of using two lines 12 mts with worm and caster switching to 6 mts with pole and maggot paid off as he landed a mixed bag of 66lbs 11oz.
