Wythall Transport Museum hosts Holiday on the Buses weekend

THERE was a real Holiday on the Buses for visitors to Wythall Transport Museum over the weekend.

Hundreds flocked to the popular attraction over Sunday and Monday for some traditional British fun and some traditional British weather.

Among the activities on offer were rides on classic buses and the miniature steam train and the chance to see the venue’s impressive collection of 100 classic buses, coaches, milk floats and bread vans.

The event was quite a poignant one for fans of the hit TV show On the Buses as it came just weeks after the death of actor Stephen Lewis who played iconic inspector Blakey in the 1960s and 1970s series.

Many of the buses at the transport museum come from the same era the programme is set in.

Malcolm Keeley, from the Wythall Transport Museum said: “It was very wet, very rainy and very damp but we still attracted great numbers – although a little down on last year when the weather was brighter.

“Our visitors are made of sturdy stuff though – and many even enjoyed the top deck of our 1947 open top bus which still ran despite the rain.”

He added they were hoping for better weather for the next big event on October 4 when they would be welcoming back the J40 Pedal Car Club for their annual gathering.

“Children of all ages love it – and adults do too,” said Mr Keeley.
