Work to begin on 30 new Bromsgrove homes after scheme given the green light

PLANNING permission has been given for 30 new homes to be built in Perryfields Road in Sidemoor.

The development will be a mix of 20 rental properties – one and two bedroom flats and houses – and ten shared ownership homes.

Those will include two and three bedroom houses.

Bromsgrove District Housing Trust (bdht) which is behind the scheme is expecting demand to outstrip supply with the majority of shared ownership homes from the previous phase being reserved from plan.

The development is being supported by a grant from the Homes and Communities Agency and Bromsgrove District Council and work, expected to take 12 months, is due to start at the end of November.

It is anticipated the properties will be ready for people to move into by next November.

Mike Brown, bdht’s chief executive, said planning permission for this scheme was a step in the right direction but added there was still a lot to do with regard to the provision of affordable housing across the district.

“But we can’t stop here – we have over 1,600 households on our waiting list so continued development is essential to meet the needs of Bromsgrove people.

“As a local provider of social housing, bdht is committed to meeting the aspirations of people within the communities we serve.”

He added developments like this were good for working people, giving them the opportunity to access quality rented housing or getting them onto the property ladder.

And he said that would not be possible without shared ownership homes.

Anyone wanting to find out more or register their interest in shared ownership homes should email [email protected], visit www.bdhthomes.co.uk or call Judy Sanders at bdht on 01527 557531.
