WORK ON Bromsgrove’s brand new leisure centre and swimming pool will begin on August 15.
The new complex, the subject of much community debate, will be constructed next to the existing Dolphin Centre on School Drive.
The Dolphin Centre will remain open until the new one opens in 2017.
Two new swimming pools, including one with a movable floor for disability access, an indoor climbing wall, three fitness studios and a 100-station gym are some of its features.
Bromsgrove District Council’s portfolio holder for Leisure Coun Peter Whittaker said: “After years of consultation, preparation, and planning, we are excited to now move forward and provide our community with a new generation of exciting leisure opportunities.”
Morgan Sindall Group won the district council’s contract to build the centre.
The group’s area director Richard Fielding, said he was pleased to be involved in the project and was confident the finished centre would be well-received by the local community.
The centre will be self-funding and the process of selecting a day-to-day operator to run it will shortly take place.
