Wombles of Fairfield clean for the queen

THE LITTLE Wombles of Fairfield were out to Clean for the Queen and tidy up their village.

Sporting high-vis vests and armed with black bags and grabbers, local residents and children from Fairfield First School collected beer cans, crisp packets, plastic bottles and bags of dog poo from Stourbridge Road, School Drive, Dordale Road, Wood Lane, Stoneybridge Island and the Recreation Ground.

A representative of Fairfield Village Community Association, who organised the litter pick, said: “Litter spoils the beauty of an area but also sends out the message that we don’t care about our environment.

“Coming together as a small group to do something about it was really uplifting and with Bromsgrove District Council providing the equipment, it couldn’t have been easier to make a positive impact.”

She added: “Our litter pick is obviously just a small piece of the jigsaw but if everybody did their bit, the benefit to Bromsgrove would be immense.”

A further litter pick will take place on April 23 at 10.30am when residents will meet at the junction of Brook Road and Bournheath Road.
