A WOMAN was attacked and stabbed in Lickey End yesterday (Tuesday).

The attempted street robbery took place about 5pm as the 20-year-old walked down an alleyway between Alcester Road and Birmingham Road, near to the Forest Harvester.

The man approached her from behind and reached for her mobile phone which was in her hand.

He then stabbed her in the stomach with a sharp silver implement, thought to be a screwdriver.

The woman suffered a cut and needed treatment at Birmingham’s Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The raider, who then fled empty-handed, was white, in his early 20s and of slim build.

He had short dark hair and stubble on his face and was wearing a dark hooded top and dark blue jeans.

Det Con Ian Tomlinson said: “We are taking this assault very seriously and wish to speak to anyone who may have seen a man of this description in the area that evening.

“This appears to be an unprovoked attack on a member of the community who has been walking home, if you have seen anything suspicious within this area prior to the incident, then please contact us on 101.”

Witnesses or anyone with any information should call police on 101 or Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.
