THE FIREARM scare which closed Droitwich High Street was down to a woman carrying a tennis racket, it has emerged.
Armed officers were called out to reports of a teenager carrying a weapon on July 12.
A part of the High Street was closed after the police were called about 6.20pm, it was later reopened but there remained a high police presence in the area while they continued with their search.
A West Mercia Police spokesman said they had now identified a woman who fitted the description of who they were looking for.
He added: “She was not carrying a firearm, it was a tennis racket.
“We do not know if this was what the person, who reported it, saw – we have not identified anyone else.”
The spokesman said they believed the report was made by a person with a genuine concern and thanked them for their vigilance.
