SCHOOLCHILDREN were given the chance to go out on a canal barge on the Worcester and Birmingham Canal to find out about the waterways.

The 20 youngsters from reception, year one, two, three and four from Webheath First School Academy enjoyed the trip last month.

On their journey they learned about the history of the area and the wildlife that lives on the waterside.

Matt Anderson, manager of the Anglo Welsh Tardebigge base, said: “Canals are wonderful places for children to visit.”

Hollie Heffernan, of Webheath First School Academy, said she was really pleased the children were given the chance to enjoy such a lovely canal boat adventure.
