A WAR memorial containing the names of pupils from St Chad’s Primary School who fought in the First World War is to be put on permanent display in the village’s library.
The list used to be housed in the school on New Road, which then became Rubery Youth Centre.
It was placed there as a reminder to young people living in the village of the sacrifice made by those involved in the Great War.
There has been a lot of debate over where the memorial should go, with some arguing it should go somewhere in Rubery where everyone can see it and others suggesting it be put in St Chad’s Church.
But Coun Peter McDonald, speaking at last week’s PACT (Partners and Community Together) meeting, said it was Worcestershire County Council’s memorial and the authority wanted it to go in one of its own buildings which was why the library was chosen.
A Worcestershire County Council spokesperson confirmed a space had been found in the library, adding the memorial would be given pride of place at the venue in due course.
