Unemployment in Bromsgrove drops

THE NUMBER of unemployed people in Bromsgrove has dropped again this year.

And the town’s JobCentre Plus has announced the number of young people, between 18 and 25, claiming JobSeekers Allowance has dropped from 250 to 100, the lowest it has been since 2007.

In total there are 575 claimants, which has decreased from its all-time peak of 1,200 – the figure it was in August 2009.

Jamie Jacobsen, the JobCentre’s business development manager, said it was excellent news for the town and the people of Bromsgrove.

“We have seen an increase in the number of vacancies particularly in the last six months.

“I can genuinely say it is very encouraging for the future and we should expect to see further falls.”

He added staff were still working hard to help match those who were still unemployed with suitable vacancies or training to get them back into that type of work.
