TV’s Chiles lacing up with Baggies mates for 10k

TV PRESENTER Adrian Chiles, who grew up in Hagley, will be lining up in the Great Birmingham 10K on Sunday (May 1).

Adrian, who used to go to Haybridge High School, used to run along Birmingham’s canals when he was based at The Mailbox when The One Show was filmed there.

The 49-year-old wore a Scooby Doo costume as part of a team for Cure Leukaemia – the West Midlands-based blood cancer charity – when he took part in the Dragonboat Race in Brindley Place last May.

He also completed the 2005 London Marathon dressed as BaggieBird, the matchday mascot of his beloved West Bromwich Albion, in aid of Sunfield Children’s Home, Clent.

Thankfully for him, he will not have to do this challenge in fancy dress and he will be joined by Baggies running mates during the 10k, with former players Geoff Horsfield, himself a survivor of testicular cancer, and Richard Sneekes both signing up.

“I’m going to tuck in behind those two and try to keep up,” he said.

“I don’t want to see Geoff even break sweat, as I’ve always regarded him as indestructible.”

Residents can visit http://www.greatrun.org/great-birmingham-10k to find out more about the race and can save £10 if they enter the Great Birmingham 10K and half marathon which takes place in the Second City on October 16.
