A GROUP of travellers have set up an illegal encampment on land on Bromsgrove’s Oakalls Estate.

There are a number of caravans and vehicles in the area, between Royal Worcester Crescent and Spode Gardens.

A report to local residents from the West Mercia Police Community Support team has advised people not to approach the travellers or ‘try to take matters into their own hands’.

The police have spoken to the leader of the group who has stated they intend to remain there until June 20.

Moving traveller encampments on, when they are on public land,  is the task of Bromsgrove District Council.

A Bromsgrove District Council spokesperson confirmed officers had gone out to see the travellers, advising them to move on and the legal process to move them on has now begun.
