BROMSGROVE MP Sajid Javid was named as the Politician of the Year at the British Muslim Awards.
The glittering event, held at the Chateau Impney in Droitwich, recognised a wide range of achievements covering various aspects of society including business, charity, sport, arts and culture and much more.
It was presented by award-winning TV chef, Ajmal Mushtaq and more than 400 people attended.
There were also special performances by Asian comedian, Mani Laiqat and nausheed artist Naseem Khan.
Mr Javid said: “I’m grateful to the organisers for this award.
“It’s always nice to be recognised for the work you do – both locally in Bromsgrove and nationally as a minister.
“These awards recognised a wide range of achievements which covered all aspects of British society today.
“I hope the winners can inspire future generations.”
Sultan Choudhury the chief executive of Al Rayan Bank, congratulated the winners and the nominees for their impressive contributions to their sectors
And Irfan Younis, the CEO for the event organisers Oceanic Consulting, said there were some truly inspirational individuals, businesses and organisations in all of the categories, adding he would like to congratulate all of the finalists and winners who continuously thrive to excel, making worthy contenders.”
As well as recognising the achievements of British Muslims at the forefront of their industries the event raised £1,500 for The Well Foundation.
The charity raises cash to build wells, install hand pumps and establish health and sanitation programmes to provide clean water to poorer areas in the world.
