VISITORS who go to Bromsgrove’s Avoncroft Museum tomorrow (Saturday) and Sunday (May 11) will certainly be hoping to have the wind in their sails as the venue holds a special event to celebrate the country’s milling heritage.
The iconic 19th Century windmill will be up and running and those who go along will be able to see volunteers in action, checking weather conditions and setting the sails to allow the postmill to turn. They will also be able to have a tour of the mill, which was originally from Danzey Green in Warwickshire and hit the headlines in January 2012 when it was seriously damaged in high winds. Since then it has been repaired and is now in full working order.
There will be demostrations of traditional bread-making in the Toll House, which is decorated as it would have been 200 years ago. After mixing and kneeding the dough, volunteers will bake it in an original wood-fired oven and an open fire griddle used for cooking in Victorian times.
Admission is £8.80 for adults, £7.70 for older people, £4.50 for children and free to Avoncroft members.
