A TEENAGER was detained under the Mental Health Act and taken to hospital for an assessment after walking on the railway line near Bromsgrove Station at 9.15pm last night (Monday).

The Standard was contacted about the incident by a resident concerned about the amount of police activity at the station and in the surrounding area, in roads including Rutherford Road and Finstall Road.

West Mercia Police confirmed officers had been contacted by a man about his 17-year-old son who had split from his girlfriend, was feeling low and was threatening to harm himself. A train driver also reported seeing the youth near the tracks.

An ambulance was sent to the scene and after the teen was located, he was checked over by paramedics.

A spokesperson for British Transport Police (BTP), which took over from West Mercia officers, said: “The youth was detained under the Mental Health Act before being taken to hospital for an assessment.”
