HRH The Princess Royal visited volunteers in Bromsgrove on Monday (April 20) as Patron of Lattitude Global Volunteering.
Arriving by helicopter, HRH Princess Anne was greeted at Blackwell Adventure by primary school children waving Union Flags.
Her Royal Highness met participants from Canada, New Zealand, Australia and Ghana who are taking a year out with Lattitude and are based at the campsite and activity centre.
As part of the Blackwell Adventure team, the volunteers are instructing visitors in outdoor education activities.
Princess Anne was able to see them at work, instructing children in a range of activities and Her Royal Highness spoke to each of them regarding their work and motives for offering their help overseas.
Joanne Smithson, CEO of Lattitude, provided a formal welcome upon the Princess’ arrival.
She said: “It’s been a wonderful day.
“We were delighted to welcome Her Royal Highness, as patron of our youth development charity and to celebrate our work with one of our long-standing partners, Blackwell Adventure.
“Our volunteers felt honoured to be able to meet Her Royal Highness and I’m sure it will be a day that will live long in their memory.”
Princess Anne presented Lattitude’s Adrian Evans Award to former members Alex Astley and Will Clare for their contribution to volunteering and ongoing support of charitable projects.
This has culminated in the pair setting up their own UK based charity, Students4Students.
A tour of the Blackwell Adventure Outdoor Education Centre followed where Her Royal Highness met children and staff from local schools including Streetsbrook Infant School, Priestley Smith School, Wilden All Saints CofE Primary School and Chilcote Primary School.
In a visit to Manor House, Her Royal Highness was also able to meet Lattutide employees and volunteers from other placements in the reigon.
These participants are able to provide support in schools in the reigon as additional teaching assistants.
Princess Anne gave a short speech at Manor House acknowledging Lattitude’s work and how she had enjoyed the day.
